Which soil or compost is best

We often receive the question “Which soil is best for my garden?” or, “Should I add compost to the garden soil?”  Finding the answer to this depends on the type of garden or lawn you plant.  Certain soils work best in specific types of garden beds. Read on to learn which soil or compost is best for your garden project.

Which soil is best?

Lightweight, fluffy and aerated soils prove to be the best. Trees require sandy loam to enhance root growth.  Native plants & lawns also thrive in sandy loam.  Vegetables and flowers prefer a nutrient-rich soil with more structure and water holding capacity.

To start, prepare fresh lawns and instant turf with a screened  sandy loam top soil is best to help the roots establish.

Vegetable Gardens and Flower Beds

Vegetables and flowers gain benefits from soil because it provides structure and nutrients.  Super blend enriches the soil with added aged fowl manure and offers more water holding capacity.   However, you can also incorporate other types of composts which can also be added to garden soil.   Mushroom Compost, Revive compost or Diggers Compost are just a few examples.

For Australian Native Plants, use free draining Sandy Loam.  Australian natives flourish in a lower nutrient, free draining soil, as excessive nitrogen can harm the sensitive root systems.

Composts

Composts serve as soil conditioners and stimulates microbial activity. You can make smaller quantities at home using kitchen scraps with fresh and dry garden waste.

Furthermore, bulk composts come from different industries such as mushroom farms, the dairy industry and gardening industry.

Mushroom Compost

The mushroom growing industry produces Mushroom Compost by mixing it with straw and other growing mediums for mushrooms.  For example it can provide plants like roses with a significant boost in spring.  Specifically mix mushroom compost into the base for a naturally nutritious lift.

Revive Compost

Then, Revive compost originates from the dairy industry.  You can mix this compost into the base to add structure and nourishment.

Diggers Compost

Diggers compost is a dark organic garden soil conditioner.  This compost is arises from garden trimmings including leaves and branches. It uses a controlled batching composting technique.   Additionally, it can be added to all soil types from sandy loam to clay.  Lastly, Diggers Compost has gained popularity as a compost choice for vegetable gardens and flower beds.
